It was started in 1964, is designated E 772, and is scheduled to consist of 2110 sheets. About 50% of these have been produced, most of which relate to the northern part of Colombia. Some of the maps are only available in a monochrome form but all are part of the IGAC programme. The principal map series is at 1:100 000 and its preparation began in 1946.
In total, 96 sheets will be required to provide complete coverage of Colombia, and 11 of these have already been completed. In 1979, IGAC began the preparation of a new series at 1:500 000, but at present only four of a projected 26 maps have been compiled. The permission of the Ministry of Defense is necessary prior to the purchase of medium and large scale mapping by the general public.
